ASTROLATRY film score/CANNES screening
I recently had the extremely unique experience of composing the film score to ASTROLATRY. It screened at CANNES this spring and distribution is in process. What was unique about this score was that it was almost entirely composed on eurorack modules. This helped to create an “organic” electronic sound and grit that matched with the very visceral feel of the film. Soundtrack release date to be announced. Here is the official film synopsis:
Astrolatry is a 2026 dark comedy and body-horror film directed by David Gordon about an obsessive man whose severed appendage turns into a sentient, murderous creature.
Plot and Themes
The Story: Elliot Loeser is a lonely, obsessive man working in a hypersexualized society. He becomes infatuated with a beauty cream model named Mary. After an alien meteor crashes on his roof, he uses its hallucinogenic slime. A violent delusion leads to an accident and an accidental penectomy. His severed organ becomes a living, psychosexual killer.
The Message: Writer and director David Gordon uses the bizarre plot to satirize incel culture, "nice guy" tropes, and toxic masculinity.
Cast and Production
Starring Cast: Ethan Daniel Corbett plays Elliot Loeser, Milena Abilova plays Mary, and Isabel Fugatt plays Iris. Supporting cast members include Aaron Groben, Michael Mau, and Christine Schlehuber.
Runtime: The film has a runtime of 109 minutes.
Behind the Scenes: David Gordon served as the writer, director, and cinematographer for the project.
